Teens learning to love,
protect and restore nature.

Acterra's Young Earth Stewards program connects youth with nature using habitat restoration as the vehicle to educate and inspire a life-long appreciation of and love for the natural world. This program encourages youth to spend time outdoors, it teaches them to be active stewards of the land, and increases their sense of place and sense of community.

Acterra provides teacher training, classroom presentations and activities, field experiences including hiking, weeding, planting and maintaining native ecosystems. We also assist to students to develop field and restoration guides to their sites, either at the Arastradero Preserve, in neighborhood parks, or "schoolyard habitats."

Through our program, middle and high school students learn about natural history, land use, ethnobotany, and restoration ecology. Students' self esteem is increased when they see how they have improved the beauty and health of the land. The intent of our program is "to restore the child by restoring nature."
