What is a HouseCall?

A two-person team of trained volunteers will come to your home for a scheduled 2.5 hour visit, at a time that's mutually convenient. During the visit, the Green@Home team will offer you the following energy-saving upgrades:

  • Provide and install a retractable clothesline.*
  • Choose a place for three compact fluorescent light bulbs.
  • Optimize water heater and refrigerator temperatures.
  • Install faucet aerators and low flow showerheads.
  • Show you how to measure and adjust tire pressure.
  • Install up to 5 outlet or light switch gaskets.
  • Measure energy draw of home electronics.
In addition, the team will go over a comprehensive checklist of additional steps you might take, ranging from no-cost ideas like vacuuming your refrigerator coils to low-cost options like weather-stripping or more significant investments in energy efficiency such as double-paned windows. Together, you and the team will create a customized conservation plan to meet your household's budget and needs.

If you agree, the Green@Home team will also review your utility bill with you, comparing your usage with others and suggesting what to look for in the future. Palo Alto residents will also receive information about how to sign up for PaloAltoGreen, the City of Palo Alto Utilities renewable energy purchase program. Other information about energy- and water-saving services will also be available.

The fastest and easiest way to request a free HouseCall is to click on the "Request a -FREE- HouseCall" button, directly below. However, if you would like more information or prefer to request a HouseCall via telephone, please call 650-962-9876, x380.

*The Green@Home services and equipment are FREE, and service is offered to everyone, regardless of ability to pay. Donations are welcome to offset equipment costs. Please contact Alexi Miller at alexim*acterra.org to make a contribution.
