Creekside Restoration Workday - Volunteers Needed

Description:  -The San Francisquito Watershed Council is hosting a native planting day in Portola Valley along Los Trancos Creek.

-Los Trancos Creek (part of the San Francisquito Watershed) is home to diverse plant and animal communities including several endangered species. Native vegetation helps keep the aquatic habitat healthy and provides critical habitat for native wildlife.

-Come help us plant California natives along a stretch of Los Trancos Creek adjacent to the intersection of Alpine Rd. and Arastradero Rd.. Bring old clothes and study shoes, we'll provide the rest. Parking is available on the far side of the lot next to the soccer field.

Winter Weeding and Planting at Santa Venetia Marsh

Description:  Two endangered species, the California clapper rail and salt marsh harvest mouse, depend on Santa Venetia Marsh for survival. To improve their habitat, we need volunteers to help us plant native plants like coyote bush, gumplant and sticky monkey flower and weed out invasive plants such as harding grass and fennel at this site. No experience necessary, all ages welcome. Gloves, tools and all instruction are provided. Each event is led by Save The Bay staff, who are certified in CPR and Wilderness First Aid, all site projects have been planned to insure safety. Due to the sensitive nature of the restoration site, space is limited and RSVP is requested.

Kayak and Restoration at Marin Islands National Wildlife Refuge

Description:  Discover the Bay and help restore it, all in one trip! This site is normally off-limits to the public and Save The Bay has a permit to access this island just once per month. This winter we need volunteers to help us plant upland species such as buckeye, sticky monkey flower and purple needlegrass.
Minimum age is 16, all equipment and instruction are provided. Each event is led by Save The Bay staff trained in CPR and Wilderness First Aid and all sites have been scouted for a safe journey. RSVP is required.
