Winter planting project at Eden Landing Ecological Reserve
City: Hayward
Description:  Restoring this former salt pond will increase habitat for threatened and endangered waterfowl, shorebirds and fish, and provide recreation opportunities for residents who have been walled off from the shoreline for decades. Be one of the first volunteers to dig in and restore this important habitat area.
No experience necessary, all ages welcome. Gloves, tools and all instruction are provided. Each event is led by Save The Bay staff, who are certified in CPR and Wilderness First Aid, all site projects have been planned to insure safety.

Description:  The rainfall in winter makes it the perfect time to plant in the wetlands and this season we need your help to plant 8,000 native plants in the Baylands! Volunteers will plant species like blue-eyed grass, white yarrow, and sea lavender.
This program is part of Save The Bay’s ongoing wetland restoration projects with our site partner the City of Palo Alto Baylands Nature Preserve.

No experience necessary, all ages welcome.

Creekside Restoration Workday - Woodside

Description:  -The San Francisquito Watershed Council is hosting a native planting day in Woodside along Bear Creek on Saturday, February 2nd from 9:30am to 12:30pm.

-Bear Creek (part of the San Francisquito Watershed) is home to diverse plant and animal communities including several threatened species. Native vegetation helps keep the aquatic habitat healthy and provides critical habitat for native wildlife.

-Come help us plant California natives along a stretch of Bear Creek behind Woodside Elementary School. Bring old clothes and study shoes, we'll provide the plants, tools, gloves, snacks, etc..

Trash Removal Technology Tour at Lake Merritt
City: Oakland
Description:  Over sixty storm drains empty into this estuarine lake, bringing down trash from the neighborhoods in the East Bay watershed and eventually into the Bay. The City of Oakland has installed innovative trash vortex separators in a number of storm drains near the Lake that prevent up to 6,000 pounds of trash from entering it per month!
Join us for a presentation explaining how they prevent trash from flowing into the Lake and Bay, followed by a look at the vortex separator. After learning, we will work together to remove trash from the Lake using nets. All ages welcome, trash nets and gloves provided.

Description:  Learn the basics in bird photography and get to know some of the birds commonly sighted at the refuge! This workshop will help you get the most out of your point and shoot camera. We will discuss ideal sighting and photo taking conditions, lighting, composition and equipment. We will also have a slide show to familiarize you with some common shorebirds at the refuge. Our discussion will be followed by an easy, late afternoon walk where we will spot birds and take photos. Marin Islands Kayak and Restoration

Description:  Discover the Bay and help restore it, all in one trip! Join us for a kayak trip to the Marin Islands National Wildlife Refuge in San Pablo Bay. Plant and Paddle Bair Island with Save The Bay

Description:  Join us as we paddle canoes out to Middle Bair Island and help restore native wetland habitat at this site that is normally off-limits to the public. Our goal is to plant 2,500 native plants like gumplant, alkali health and jaumea this winter and you will be part of this exciting process! All canoe and restoration equipment is provided, minimum age 10. Each event is led by Save The Bay staff trained in CPR and Wilderness First Aid and all sites have been scouted for a safe journey. RSVP is required.
