GreenCitizen's mission is to stop the global environmental damage
from improper disposal of end-of-life electronics by helping
individuals and organizations recycle electronics responsibly. Since
their opening in 2005, GreenCitizen has worked with over 850
businesses and 32,000 individual customers in the collection and
responsible recycling of 2 million pounds of electronic waste.
While many recyclers simply remove the most valuable parts of
unwanted electronics and discard the remaining toxic components
in landfills and third-world countries, GreenCitizen responsibly
recycles 100% of the electronics it acquires. Substances such as
glass, plastic, aluminum and heavy metals are reused,and toxic
elements are disposed of safely.
GreenCitizen's Total Accountability Management System tracks
each recycled item with its own unique ID and serial number,
updating ID records in every stage of the shipping, sorting, and
de-manufacturing process. As a result, GreenCitizen provides
complete assurance of the safe removal of all toxins.With the aid
of this detailed accountability system, GreenCitizen's long-term
goal is to achieve industry-wide shared responsibility of electronics
recycling, wherein consumers, retailers, manufacturers, and
governments will all contribute to the funding of responsible
electronics recycling.
