South San Francisco, provides a broad array of commute
alternative programs and incentives for their employees. Their
"gRide" program offers numerous shuttle options servicing local
BART stations, the South San Francisco Caltrain station, and
intra-campus destinations.Wi-fi equipped "GenenBuses"
provide transportation to San Francisco, the Tri-Valley area, and
along the I-80 corridor.
Employee participation is encouraged via extensive outreach
materials and a recently added powerful incentive program
called "gRides Rewards," which pays employees $4 for each day
they arrive at work without their cars and log their
transportation method on a web-based reporting system. This
innovative method of data collection precisely captures the
degree of participation of employees which, in turn, allows
management to make frequent program enhancements.
Additional incentives to promote alternative transportation
include a charter bus system for off-site meetings, food service
and other facilities to avoid off-campus trips, a voucher system
for cabs to downtown South San Francisco for lunch/errands, car
and vanpool matching assistance, and showers and bicycle
storage lockers for cyclists.
