Hewlett-Packard Company

Hewlett-Packard works toward a sustainable future by developing programs that reduce the company’s environmental footprint, as well as those of its customers and partners.

Their Environmental Strategies and Sustainability (ESS) Council develops and recommends strategies, policies, and practices to help HP achieve its environmental goals worldwide.

The company’s Supply Chain Council ensures that their social and environmental responsibility program extends to suppliers by requiring each one to submit code of conduct, environmental, occupational health and safety and labor assessments.

HP’s Design for Environment program began more than a decade ago and strives to ensure products are made from materials with the least environmental impact and that they are energy efficient and easy to recycle. Recycling efforts have resulted in 16,000 metric tones of hardware being recycled in the US as well as nearly 60 million LaserJet cartridges. Last year US recycling orders were doubled thanks to an innovative e-coupon program which gives consumers up to $50 toward the purchase of a new HP product when they recycle computer hardware from any manufacturer.
